Amnesia Sequel Given Teaser Trailer

By: Julian 'MakAttack' MacDonnell

I bring both tidings of great joy and caution, for true horror lurks among us. Come this fall, a new yet familiar beast shall be unleashed upon the unsuspecting public once again. Yes my friends, Amnesia has returned.

Even though it was announced some time ago that cult hit Amnesia The Dark Descent would be getting a sequel, it appears that just today the public gets its first look at the actual game. While there is still no set release date, we are only given the ominous Fall 2012 mention on this title's main web site.

So what exactly can be taken away from the trailer? Well it appears that this follow up will have the same great atmosphere and lack of combat that helped make the original such a smash hit. It also seems as if the setting will actually allow players to go outside of the indoor locations for the first time in the series. I can see that possibly working against Frictional Games favor by way of lessening the scares and tense atmosphere the first game was well known for, however I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I also thought the lack of combat might of hindered the first Amnesia as well(Oh, how wrong I was about that). The design of the enemies, while not shown, will most likely be based of pigs as both the game's surname and the bit of noise made by the enemy in the trailer seems to indicate. Will they be as frightening as the enemies in the first Amnesia or will they be the center of ridicule as I know I found myself chuckling a bit as it was squealing to break down the door?

Along with the change in the types of enemies players will be facing, it appears as if foes will also have the ability to break down doors, making the little barricades you might have made before meaningless. Other than that not much was given about A Machine For Pigs narrative, though I know I am still on board to see what Frictional Games does here. What I do know for certain is that it will be very interesting to see the YouTube videos and lets plays following its release. So here's to the soon to be wetting of the pants, beds and floor boards!
